Gerry Adams has said he intends to remain Sinn Féin leader until 2018, despite the departure of Martin McGuinness last week.
McGuinness’s decision not to contest the forthcoming Northern Assembly elections on the grounds of ill-health has renewed speculation about Adams’s own future.
McGuinness had intended to step down this May – the tenth anniversary of him becoming Deputy First Minister – but his health problems accelerated his departure.
