More women TDs, a fragmented opposition and an inter-party government are all on the cards

The current Dáil boasts 25 female TDs, the largest number of women politicians since the foundation of the state. Nonetheless, Ireland still ranks poorly in the female representation stakes at just 16 per cent, significantly below the EU average of 28 per cent. A potential 50 per cent cut in state funding has financially incentivised political parties to meet the 30 per cent quota rule.
