The work of ‘section 39’ workers, who provide a vast array of services in the community and to people with disability, mental health challenges and patients in hospices, is often ignored or overlooked in the general conversation about the health service

We complain a lot about the HSE. There is much to complain about! Bureaucracy, bungling, poor management, bloated hierarchical structure; the list is too long, but we are able most of the time to see the value of the front line staff who cure us and make us better. Indeed, these doctors, surgeons, midwives, nurses are really the only people that most of actually care about because, selfishly, we know that they might save our lives.
