In a vacuum, we  can only be outraged

People were shocked by the leniency of Tom Humphries’ sentence - but the truth is, we have no data about what an appropriate sentence might be

Standing at the back of the Circuit Court last Tuesday, I felt a twinge of discomfort when Tom Humphries was handed down a sentence of two and a half years. Having reported on criminal cases for over a decade, I knew in my gut the jail term was light, too light.
