Stormy winter ahead but spring election looks likely

With Fianna Fáil offering to support the government until after a possible Brexit deal, the country can expect to go to the polls in the early part of 2019

Last week’s column quoted a TD who, surveying the government’s tight numbers, said it “wouldn’t take a gust of wind to blow it over.” The past week has brought more than a puff of political wind and while the minority coalition hasn’t been swept away, it’s beginning to look like a foolhardy swimmer clinging on to the Blackrock diving tower in Salthill during Storm Callum.
