Britain’s negotiating position for Brexit reflects a kind of magical thinking approach the rest of the EU doesn’t and will not share - and we shouldn’t either

Avoiding a general election last week was good news. Fighting an election while negotiating for the future of the country’s relationship with Britain was a non-runner.

On December 14, the EU will decide whether to allow the Brexit negotiations to proceed to phase two. Ireland has a veto on that progression as a member of the EU 27. So, for example, does Hungary. So does Germany.
