Smyth review was too generous: we now need to start from scratch

Given all the questions still hanging over the procurement process for the National Broadband Plan, we should bite the bullet and open up a new competition for the contract, write Dónal Palcic and Eoin Reeves

The political fallout from the publication of the Smyth review of the National Broadband Plan is already in full swing, with some members of the opposition calling for Peter Smyth to be hauled in front of the Oireachtas communications committee to explain his findings. Even the government has been muted in its comments on the review, with a spokesperson for the Taoiseach stating that he considers it a “partial or qualified vindication” of former minister for communications Denis Naughten.
