As the Six Nations flirts with the spectre of pay TV, the long-term future for a sport beset by surging salaries and worsening injuries is deeply uncertain

This Friday night, the 2015 RBS Six Nations rugby tournament kicks off in Cardiff when Wales host England. The following day, Ireland, the current champions, play Italy in Rome. As for me, I will be anchoring my 18th tournament on RTE television.
