‘Professionalism is a core element of being a doctor ’

Despite claims to the contrary, a doctor’s education never stops, writes Bill Prasifka, chief executive of the Medical Council

Writing in this newspaper last Sunday, Professor Michael Barry, clinical director of the National Centre for Pharmacoeconomics and head of the HSE’s Medicines Management Programme, spoke about the Medical Council and our work in supporting education in the area of good prescribing. He expressed his views relating to drug companies influencing doctors’ prescribing habits and said that industry was too involved in the education of doctors. He suggested the education of doctors need to change.
