Politics works on celebrity appeal

If you want to form a new political party, forget about policy and go for star power, writes Kevin Rafter.

If recent opinion poll results – including the Red C series for this newspaper – are borne out at the next general election, we will end up with a dolly-mixture parliament. This flux strengthens the argument for the foundation of a new political party. There is a gap in the political marketplace. Yet incumbent TDs of various ideological hues continue to dance slowly around the idea.
