Many politicians were cowed into silence by the ugliness of anti-choice tactics in the 80s, but the debate needs to be different this time

Will it be different this time? During my years in public life, abortion was the issue that most politicians – myself included – would have preferred to avoid. If in retrospect such a stance seems indefensible, it was scarcely surprising.
