Garda Commissioner Nóirín O’Sullivan made a potentially calamitous mistake in her personal statement released last Monday if her intention was to win public support for her continuing in office. In what was close to a fit of published pique, her five-paragraph statement ignored the real victim of the ongoing scandal and was all about what she perceives is unfairly happening to her: “a campaign of false accusations, repeated and multiplied, do not make me guilty of anything”.
