New tariffs evoke ruinous Economic War of 1930s

The British government’s proposed rules on imports in the event of a no-deal Brexit have serious implications for Irish agriculture

The word tariff comes from medieval Arabic and means a list or lines of notification. The term originated during the expansion of trade relations in the Mediterranean Sea between Arab and European merchants in the 16th century. Duties were paid on particular trade items which were imported or exported across the Mediterranean.
