A great newspaper takes the protection of its staff ferociously seriously at all times. But the alleged INM data breach shows us how important and difficult the job of journalism actually is

I have been in Australia for the last two weeks, but have been observing the daily drip-feed of revelations and allegations with a growing sense of shock and absolute revulsion.

That the very personal information, emails, HR files, correspondence and other documents of potentially thousands of Independent News & Media (INM) employees going back to the 1990s may have been deliberately taken out of the company and ‘interrogated’ is stomach-churning in itself.
