The IDA and Enterprise Ireland have for far too long approached industrial policy with a ‘we know best’ attitude. That must change if our regions are to thrive

The regional divides on our island are stark, and they are widening. The average gross domestic product and gross value added per person in border and western counties is less than a third of that of Dublin. The gap in disposable incomes is narrower, but the average person in these counties still has a disposable income of nearly 30 per cent less than the average Dubliner.
