McGurk: Time for a marriage of convenience

Fianna Fáil’s penance and redemption must involve going into coalition with Fine Gael, or they may fade away for good

In the February 2011 general election, Fianna Fáil got 17.5 per cent of the vote. In September 2015, in the most recent opinion poll, Fianna Fáil got 18 per cent, up half of one percentage point in five years. So much for any notions of the party’s recovery. In fact, Fianna Fáil has hovered within a percentage point or three of its 2011 vote in every opinion poll since.
