We’ve been reminded of it countless times: Ireland’s largest trading partner is Britain. So Ireland’s goal in Brexit negotiations is to achieve the softest possible Brexit – one that results in the fewest possible tariffs, and one that can precipitate the closest possible post-Brexit trading relationship between the two neighbours.
