Does the Irish question truly matter to Britain?
British ministers don’t seem to understand the implications of Brexit, yet the Irish government has explained them well
The striking feature of the late-night BBC programme Question Time over the last nine months or so is the growing intolerance of any equivocation on Brexit. Any panellist rationalising how to overcome manifest hurdles is accused of defying the will of the people. Any panellist extolling the virtues of the quickest hardest Brexit is cheered to the rafters. Even the self-proclaimed remainers in the audience seem to want to just get on with it.
