Ireland owes it to Ibrahim Halawa to fight his corner

Every single day that Ibrahim Halawa, a young Irishman, spends in an Egyptian jail is a violation of his human rights – his right to a fair trial, access to lawyers, freedom from cruel, inhuman and degrading punishment.

He has detailed the appalling conditions in which is he being held and the beatings and abuse he has endured. Minister for Foreign Affairs Charlie Flanagan has said that these matters will be “urgently investigated”.
