Less than a month has passed since Paschal Donohoe warned of a “domino effect” if any pay concessions were made to gardaí. As he addressed the media in Government Buildings after last week’s cabinet meeting, an image emerged of a public expenditure minister using all his might to hold up the pieces and stop them from falling one by one in a way that would eventually bring down the final piece – the coalition itself.
