Handling of baby Alannah case is in stark contrast to how gardai treat domestic violence
This despicable crime has been relegated to the bottom rung, writes Susan O'Keeffe
When the body of a tiny baby was found recently at a recycling plant in Wicklow, An Garda Siochana (AGS) came forward very quickly and asked the baby’s mother to get in touch. Listening to them on radio, I was struck by the effort being made by the garda spokesperson to use kinder, warmer, more human language. It may have been somewhat stilted, but the term ‘mum’ was used a number of times. In later broadcasts, someone remembered to include ‘dad’ in the appeal.
