In order to forge ahead in 2015 and regain voter confidence, the coalition needs to agree on specific objectives on which it can deliver

The Ghost of Christmas Past came to visit the coalition leaders a little early this festive season. Last weekend’s polls, if not a nightmare, were certainly the stuff of troubled sleep for the holiday period. The trend evident throughout 2014, notwithstanding the economic recovery under way, gave the government no joy, but more fundamentally, pointed to a significant shift in traditional voting patterns. And, if the polls at the weekend were very bad for Fine Gael, they were awful for Labour.
