The Census people have been very prompt with their initial findings from the census taken earlier this year. Already they have been able to tell us that the population has risen in Ireland to 4.7 million – up from 4.5 million at the last census. Inevitably, the area that saw most population growth was Dublin, and that kind of growth causes new pressures on housing, water and all infrastructure.
