Children’s hospital in running for the most expensive ever built

The Minister for Health won’t tell us why we are paying nearly €3 million per bed for the planned hospital. This will result in other projects being delayed or abandoned

In 2012, the project was expected to cost €404 million. That quickly jumped to €485 million. By 2015, when an application for planning permission for the new National Children’s Hospital was lodged, it had increased to €650 million. Then it jumped to €1 billion. Now, we’re told it will cost €1.4 billion.
