Remain and Leave campaigners have no real interest in complexities. In the pros and cons of the European project. Winning the battle is all that counts, so deploy your best fighters, your best commanders, your best strategy. And boiling complex stories down to stark cold realities is the easiest strategy. Voters don’t go around worrying about European unity, legislation, sovereignty, markets – so don’t talk about it.
