Brexit deal is a victory for Irish diplomacy
It is a rare day when political rhetoric matches reality. The deal agreed by Dublin as part of the EU 27 and Britain to move the Brexit talks to phase 2 is a victory for Irish diplomacy, for the government’s tougher strategy, and for the peoples of both islands.
A deal exists which has humbled the British government in the short term, but helped Britain’s people in the long term.
A hard Brexit would leave Britain’s households poorer for decades. It would leave Ireland’s households poorer too.
A hard Brexit, with hard borders, high tariffs and changing regulations, is far less likely now.
