A budget to forget?

Paschal Donohoe is determined to balance the books, so this week’s budget is likely to be of little consequence

Over the last few weeks, hundreds of thousands of words have been written and spoken about Budget 2018. Lobby groups have pleaded their case to Minister for Finance and Public Expenditure Paschal Donohoe. The special interest groups have produced their pre-budget submissions with the usual wishlists of ever more unrealistic and unaffordable demands, as they do every year. Ministers have fought for increases in their departmental budgets.
