A beautiful revolution?

As crowds celebrate in Catalonia, a December vote could bring either a peaceful re-run of the 2015 elections or prolonged uncertainty if ‘independentistas’ deny its legitimacy

Men hugging, crying, in the street. Young women waving flags, ecstatic. The calm dignity of all the spokespeople. The absolute insistence of everybody that this is a peaceful revolution. The backdrop of a beautiful city, characterised by openness, art, culture, wealth. As revolutions go, the Catalan one is surely one of the most attractive in history.
