Worker who deleted emergency call gets €5,000 for wrongful dismissal

A sacked emergency services dispatcher was awarded €5,000 for wrongful dismissal from Dublin Fire Brigade after he deleted an emergency call without authorisation and allegedly tried to use a paramedic ID card to get into a concert.

The Workplace Relations Commission (WRC) concluded that while the dispatcher – who is not named in the ruling – contributed to his own sacking by 50 per cent, the fire brigade’s disciplinary process was flawed.
