Transgender people could be excluded from thewomen-only professorships that the government plans to establish in universities and other third-level institutions.

A spokesperson for junior education minister Mary Mitchell O’Connor said “no decision had been made” as to whether the positions would be open to transgender applicants, adding that the attorney general Seamus Woulfe was now examining the “final wording” of adverts that will appear.
