Wilting Bloomsday loses national festival grant

The high-profile Bloomsday festival failed to get a national grant this year because it was not attracting enough tourists.

The festival to celebrate James Joyce’s novel Ulysses had been the subject of a €113,000 marketing campaign in the USA just three years ago. One of the festival’s most famous participants is Senator David Norris, who dresses up in period costume and reads aloud from the novel during the festival.
