Somewhere in Independent News & Media’s Citywest printing facility, a giant glass-fronted edifice on the outskirts of Dublin, a time capsule is buried containing mementos of the company’s past. It was sealed in the building by Tony O’Reilly, the driving force behind INM for 40 years. The time capsule is perhaps going to be missing the most important event of the company’s 110-plus years of history: the loss of its independence, itself.
