Whatsapp is unlikely to pay out its €225 million fine to Ireland’s data watchdog for at least two years, details contained in its most recent accounts show.

The company’s Irish arm said it had set aside €246.25 million – more than the eventual fine it received – to deal with a penalty it received in September for “severe” breaches of Irish privacy laws.
