Interest rates to continue to be ‘relatively high’ – Philip Lane

Interest rates will continue to be “relatively high” for the next few years, Philip Lane, chief economist at the European Central Bank, has said.

“More increases are expected and rates will remain relatively high for the next number of years,” Lane said.

“What happens in five years out? Are we going back to super low rates we got used to between 2014 and 2022, in fact the answer is no.”
