Consumers and businesses have been warned to brace themselves for "the biggest regression in mobile network performance in modern times" as the communications regulator prepares to withdraw operator access to radio spectrum that was allocated on an emergency basis in response to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Luke Kehoe, a telecoms analyst, has said “severe service degradation” could occur in rural and suburban areas as a result of ComReg's plan.
