Judge set to break a modern day record for the shortest tenure on the Supreme Court since World War II

Justice Mary Finlay Geoghegan is to be promoted to the Supreme Court and will be replaced at the appellate court by Justice Paul Gilligan

There will be few, if any, raised eyebrows at the calibre of the latest judicial nominations announced following Tuesday's cabinet meeting.

Even Minister Shane Ross appeared happy to pipe down about the cronyism of the selection process he has been so keen to overhaul (presumably because he believes legislative change in the form of the Judicial Appointments Commission Bill will kick in presently).
