Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has said that he will “consider” increasing mortgage interest relief for almost 300,000 households who are facing another interest rate hike from the European Central Bank.

The European Central Bank (ECB) has increased interest rates six times since last July by a combined total of 3.5 percentage points.

This has had a knock-on increase in mortgage repayments for 250,000 people on tracker mortgages and 43,000 on variable interest rates. The ECB is ...
