Social welfare fraudsters will be publicly named and hit with financial penalties under new plans from Minister for Social Protection Leo Varadkar.

Varadkar outlined the plans in a major interview with The Sunday Business Post where he also confirmed that he wants to be taoiseach.

Under the minister’s social welfare crackdown, anyone who claims benefits fraudulently would be forced to pay interest and penalties and would be named publicly.
