As the wheels went up on the plane that ferried the Taoiseach back to Ireland, he must have breathed an enormous sigh of relief. His second St Patrick’s Day visit to the US was significantly less turbulent than his maiden voyage.
This year’s visit suggested a US-Irish relationship in transition, an economically sound Ireland secure in its place at the heart of the EU had sloughed off the skin of the supplicant.
