Universities win battle to keep old research free

The proposed new deal, which Taylor & Francis has now rolled back on, would have given access to papers published in the last 20 years

Irish and British university libraries have won their well-worded battle against a major British publisher’s plans to hike up fees to access older research papers online.

An open letter signed by 110 universities, including members of the Irish Universities Association (IUA), fiercely opposed the suggested change of contract for the licensing of and access to the Taylor & Francis journal package, which is currently available to universities and colleges.
