Figures from the Central Statistics Office today show that the number of people at work continued to rise in the third quarter of this year, while the unemployment rate fell below 8 per cent for the first time since late 2008.

The quarterly national household survey shows that employment in the economy rose by 57,500 over the previous 12 months, meaning thatthere are now 2,040,500 people working.
