The government is to appoint two extra commissioners to Ireland’s data watchdog following political pressure and international scrutiny of the office.

Helen Dixon, the current Data Protection Commissioner (DPC), will move to the role of chairperson of the restructured organisation.

The restructure comes after recommendations by the Oireachtas Justice Committee for the number of commissioner to be increased.
