U2 are one of the most important things to have happened in 20th century Ireland - but they have a tortured relationship with many of us

U2 felt the love of a crowd of 80,000 people at Croke Park last night, just as they had on nine previous occasions at that venue, and most pertinently to this performance of the Joshua Tree album, as they had in 1987 during that album’s first tour. It was when, arguably, they were at their creative and popular height in Ireland.
