The Trump family’s plan to build a sea wall aimed at protecting their golf resort in Doonbeg, Co Clare, has been approved, the latest twist in a project that had stoked tensions in the area.

Clare County Council gave the go-ahead for TIGL Ireland Enterprises to construct defences beside a public beach at its golf resort on the Atlantic coast. Objectors may appeal the decision within a month.
