Trophy homes are continuing to sell at the high end of the market, but the peak price paid this year is a full €1 million less than last year’s equivalent – and experts are beginning to wonder if ‘something is wrong with the market’

Last year proved itself to be another fascinating one in terms of the property market, one that could be described as both schizophrenic and tending to stabilisation in equal measure. Sales were both impaired and stimulated by exceptional forces of nature, from snowstorms to record-level prolonged heat and from conservative fiscal policies to the political uncertainty of Britain’s planned exit from the European Union.
