A Fine Gael TD has criticised the decision of Pope Francis not to appoint any new Irish cardinals, meaning the country may not have a say in the election of the next pope.

Colm Burke, the Cork North Central TD, said that Pope Francis had announced 20 new cardinals in the Vatican last month, but had appointed none from Ireland.
