Trinity College Dublin indirectly discriminated against a retired gay lecturer in relation to his pension, according to a preliminary ruling of the European Court of Justice.

The university’s occupational pension scheme was wrong to deprive Dr David Parris’s partner of 30 years the right to a survivor’s pension in the event of the academic’s death, according to an opinion of the advocate general.
