Tax appeals body sought funds to deal with backlog

The commission was set up by former finance minister Michael Noonan to speed up complex appeals that could not be resolved internally between the Revenue and taxpayers

The Tax Appeals Commission (TAC) sought an increase in resources for extra staff and new offices after a surge in the number of cases coming its way.

According to partially redacted briefing notes from the Department of Finance, released under Freedom of Information, the commission held a number of meetings with the department last year to outline issues that have emerged.
