Taoiseach raises hopes of extending 9% Vat rate for food and drink venues

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar: said that there will be no cliff edge to the supports given to businesses and households which are due to end on February 28

Senior sources in the hospitality sector have said they believe they can convince the government to extend the 9 per cent Vat rate.

The rate is due to return to 13.5 per cent from March 1, but lobby groups for the sector plan to make the case that it should remain at its lower level due to inflation in energy, food costs and wages.
