Surge in compensation claims for slopping out
Over 1,000 claims have now been lodged
The state has seen a near 40 per cent surge in the number of claims for compensation from prisoners who claim they were forced to slop out their cells.
According to the annual report of the State Claims Agency, which manages legal actions, some 1,011 claims for compensation have now been lodged with the agency, although it does not put a figure on how much it may eventually have to pay out.
